Over time, without proper care, all sterling jewellery is susceptible to tarnish.

It's important to understand that tarnish is in no way related to the quality of silver but more related to chemisty and understanding the science behind how tarnish occurs.

Sterling Silver contains 92.5% Silver and 7.5% is made up of other metals, usually copper. The copper is what makes the Silver harder & more durable for jewellery making. While the addition of copper to the silver is what makes it more durable, copper is also what causes tarnishing

Tarnish is a chemical reaction that is caused by the copper content in silver reacting to moisture and sulfur in the air. Sterling Silver will generally tarnish quicker in high humidity climates & places with higher levels of air pollution. Perfume, hairspray, deodorant, medications and moisturisers can also contribute to tarnishing due chemical reactions with these substances. For some people tarnish can appear quicker than others based on your environment and changing body acidity, even if you have not previously had issues with tarnish.

To help prevent tarnish we recommend the following

✨ Regularly polish your jewellery with a jewellery polish cloth. We provide one with every order and also have them available for purchase on our website.

✨ When not in use we recommend storing your piece in a dry airtight container (we recommend storing your piece in an air tight zip lock bag or jewellery box specifically designed to house jewellery and limit chemical reactions)

✨ Where possible avoid direct contact with perfume, lotions, hair spray & fake tan

✨ Remove your jewellery before showering or swimming

✨ If you have chosen black lettering we don't recommend using chemical  solutions as this will remove the blackening from the letters

Gold and Rose Gold Fill are lovely low maintenance precious metals that are highly resistant to tarnish.

We recommend polishing your piece with a jewellery polishing cloth as required. We provide one with every order and also have them available for purchase on our website.

Stainless Steel pieces only need to be wiped over with a soft cloth when required. The joy of stainless steel is it requires very little maintenance. We only use the highest grade jewellery stainless steel so your piece won't ever rust or tarnish.

If you have chosen black lettering for your keepsake we do NOT recommend liquid chemical cleaners as they may remove the black lettering.

Over time, with exposure to the elements and water the blackening of your letters may slowly disappear. Please email us for a quick solution to restore the blackened letters on your piece at home or you can return your piece to us for cleaning and restoring the black lettering. A small cost for materials and registered post will apply.

Pour the mixture into the bowl with 1/2 cup of vinegar. Bubbles will come to the surface. Let the mixture sit for approximately 10 minutes.
